Science Fair

 Science Fair May 8th
(This is a copy of the Science Fair letter that went home on March 25th)

The Science Fair will be held on Thursday, May 8th, 2014.  Each student needs to contribute a Science experiment or project.  There are a number of resource books available in the classroom for experiment ideas.  The actual project or experiment will be done at home.

In third grade, students have the choice of doing an experiment with a tri-fold display board OR making a model of something and writing a 1-2 page report explaining their model.  There is an example of what the tri-fold display should look like on the back of this paper.  I have also attached many questions that can be turned into experiments.  If doing an experiment, students need to bring in the materials used to show the results or have photographs of the experiment if the actual materials are not able to be transported.

On the day of the Science Fair, each child’s work will be on display.  The projects are due the morning of Thursday, May 8th.  If your student has a planned absence, the project will need to be brought into school ahead of time!  Other than planned absences, please DO NOT send projects in early.  There is simply no storage space in the classroom. Each student will need to present their project to the class and explain what they did and what they learned.  They should not simply read off their board.

This project will be factored into their 3rd trimester Science grade.  I hope that this project will be a fun, learning experience.  The children will need parental guidance, but the work (including writing) and discovery need to be theirs.

Thank you for your cooperation.  See you at the Science Fair!
