Happy Belated Mother’s Day!
Third grade is leading assembly this week. I will try to select different students to
help each day. Today, Calvin, Aileen, Caden W. and Emily did a great job leading
us in the flag salute and the morning prayer.
We will not have a spelling test this week, as we have a
shorter week and will be attending Victorious Viking day this Friday.
Wednesday morning we will have STAR testing. The best way to
prepare is a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast in the morning.
Please feel free to send me any questions you may have.

Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross
Our class teamed up with the fourth graders for Stations of the Cross. At each station, the student recalled and meditated on a specific event from Christ's last day. Specific prayers were recited, then the student moved to the next station until all fourteen stations were completed. This was a great opportunity to reflect and remember the Passion of Jesus. The celebration of the Stations of the Cross is common on the Fridays of Lent, especially Good Friday.

Week of March 20-24
Classroom Update for the week of March 24.
Room three has been very busy these last few weeks.
Language Arts/Writing: The students have been hard at work on their biography reports and we are planning to finish up this week. We will not have a spelling test this week as we have a shorter week and will not have school on Friday due to a teacher inservice day. We will be using this week to review grammar concepts and vocabulary.
Math: We have started a new unit on fractions. We will still be taking our weekly multiplication tests, so please keep practicing at home. Once students all the students have completed their multiplicaiton and division facts to ten, we will have an ice cream sundae party! Several students have already met this goal.
Social Studies: We are beginning a new unit on government.
Science: Miss Julie has been teaching us about recycling and sustainability. Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. Students had a really fun class learning about composting and investigating what they can find in compost.
Religion: We continue our lenten journey as we prepare for Easter. Students are spending a few minutes each day completing their lenten calendars. We are planning a special lenten activity with the fourth grade class next Monday to complete the stations of the cross.
Field Trip: We have a field trip to the Getty Museum planned on Friday, April 7. We are going with the second grade class. Unfortunately, due to limited seating on the bus we are only able to take 4 chaperones and we have had many apply. I am going to have a drawing and select four names. I will be sending emails to everyone who offered to chaperone. If you would like to chaperone but are not selected please feel free to meet us at the Getty.
Please feel free to email me with any questions.

We have been working on division and multiplication of 7's and 8's.
We continue to practice problem solving and strategies to help us solve problems.
(rereading problem, identifying key terms and facts, making a plan to solve problem, visualizing problems, drawing a picture or creating a chart and checking if the solution makes sense)
Practice for Multiplication test at home. Students will be bringing home a plastic sleeve each Monday and Wednesday that they can write on with a dry erase marker to practice for their two minute timed test. Please return these to school the following day, so that students can take their test in class. This system gives students a chance to practice at home and helps save trees and time. :)

Photos from PS Science with Miss Julie
Students learned about Newton's Laws of motion. They had a chance to work with Newton's Cradle and discover why we wear seat belts. Thank you for a great lesson Miss Julie!
